ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts a reprieve from severe heatwave conditions in the upper regions of the country as dust storms, thunderstorms, and isolated rainfall are predicted from May 28 to June 01.
A shallow westerly wave is expected to impact the upper areas of Pakistan on May 28, bringing with it dust storms and thunderstorms across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi.
In Balochistan, areas such as Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Sherani, and Barkhan are likely to experience duststorms and thunderstorms from May 27 to May 29. Similarly, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, and others, may see these conditions from May 28 to June 01.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir regions, including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum valley, are also expected to witness rain, wind, and thunderstorms during the mentioned period.
Punjab, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, along with other areas like Murree, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad, may experience dust storms, thunderstorms, and isolated rain from May 28 to June 01.
In Sindh, specifically Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Hyderabad, duststorms and gusty winds are forecasted on May 28 and May 29.
The PMD advises farmers to manage their crops accordingly due to weather fluctuations while cautioning about potential disruptions to daily routines and infrastructure caused by duststorms, windstorms, and lightning.
While the upper parts of the country are expected to see relief from severe heatwave conditions, central and southern regions may still experience heatwave-like conditions. The public is urged to minimize exposure to direct sunlight, and authorities are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate any potential risks during this period.
