ISLAMABAD: In response to concerns raised in a petition filed at the Peshawar High Court (PHC) seeking a ban on TikTok due to alleged offensive content, the social media platform has informed the court that it has established a special portal for the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to remove objectionable material.

A letter addressed to the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court outlined TikTok’s measures to address the issue of offensive content uploaded on its platform in Pakistan. The platform stated that it takes reports of offensive content seriously and has a stringent policy against such material.

TikTok emphasized its commitment to local regulations and maintaining a safe environment for users, stating that it has already blocked reported offensive content through the dedicated portal provided to the PTA. The company further highlighted that no recent reports of offensive material from the PTA had been received.

In its letter to the court, TikTok maintained that following news reports, the social media platform proactively requested the PTA to report any offensive content through the provided portal. The company has yet to decide on its participation in the ongoing court proceedings but assured that it complies with local laws regarding offensive content.

TikTok reiterated its adherence to Pakistani laws concerning offensive content and assured its cooperation with regulatory authorities to enforce these standards effectively.
