ISLAMABAD: TikTok, the popular short-form video platform, has announced updates to its Community Guidelines and the introduction of new features aimed at empowering creators and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for the global community of users.

Effective from May 17, these updates include clearer definitions, improved tools for understanding policies, and enhanced measures for monitoring account status, according to a press release issued by TikTok.

The refined Community Guidelines offer users clearer definitions and more detailed information on policies related to hate speech, health misinformation, and content moderation. These enhancements are intended to enhance user understanding and transparency regarding TikTok’s rules and enforcement procedures.

In an effort to ensure a safer experience on the For You feed, TikTok is implementing new eligibility standards. Creators who repeatedly post content that violates these standards will have their accounts temporarily ineligible for recommendation in the For You feed, with their content being less visible in search results. Affected creators will receive notifications and have the opportunity to appeal these decisions.

To assist creators in understanding TikTok’s rules, the platform is introducing a warning strike system. Creators who violate Community Guidelines for the first time will receive a warning that does not count toward their account’s strike tally. Subsequent violations, however, will be tracked and penalized accordingly, with TikTok informing creators of the specific rules breached and providing guidance on the appeals process.

TikTok is also rolling out a new feature called ‘Account Check,’ allowing creators to audit their accounts and recent posts. This tool provides a clear overview of their standing on TikTok, indicating any restrictions on features due to guideline violations and highlighting content removed or restricted from the For You feed. Additionally, TikTok is introducing the TikTok Creator Code of Conduct, setting standards for creators participating in TikTok programs, features, events, and campaigns.
