Tokyo, Washington to Collaborate on Next-generation Nuclear Reactors

ISLAMABAD: While holding ministerial-level talks on energy, Tokyo and Washington agree to boost bilateral collaboration to develop next-generation nuclear reactors.

During their meeting, US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and Japanese industry minister Yasutoshi Nishimura decided that both countries will work together on other energy issues including securing liquefied natural gas.

Japan, US to collaborate on next-generation N-reactors

As per the joint statement, Japan and the US will speed up cooperation in constructing as well as developing next-generation advanced reactors. This will also include small modular reactors.

The reactors would be developed within “each country” and also “third countries”.

Previously, in October, the two governments had disclosed a plan to collaborate on introducing small nuclear reactor technology to Ghana.
