MUNICH: A senior Chinese diplomat has said that for a safer world, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all countries must be respected.

In a keynote speech at the 59th Munich Security Conference (MSC), Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the China’s Communist Party Central Committee, said that power politics and hegemony are a recipe for global instability and caused the biggest damage to global peace.

Wang Yi said that interference in internal affairs of other countries disregards and defies the fundamental norms governing international relations.

The Chinese diplomat warned that any violation of the one-China principle on the Taiwan issue, and any attempt to create “one China, one Taiwan” or “two Chinas,” are a gross infringement on China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and cause real threats to stability and peace across the Taiwan Strait.

He said that the principle of sovereignty is a cornerstone of the current international order, and all nations should abide by the principle in both deeds and words rather than apply it with double standards or selectively.

Chinses diplomat calls for peaceful resolution of disputes

Wang Yi said China will definitely curb efforts of interference and separatism to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Wang maintained that for a safer and peaceful world, disputes needed to be peacefully resolved through consultation and talks.

While speaking about the Ukraine issue, he said China’s position boils down to supporting and promoting peace negotiations. He said that China will stress for the political settlement of the Ukraine dispute, and stand firmly on the side of peace and negotiations.

Wang noted that for a peaceful world, the principles and purposes of the United Nations (UN) Charter should be promoted.

He said that the chaos and conflicts damaging the world today took place because the principles and purposes of the charter have not been truly observed.

Wang Yi pointed out that currently the urgent need is all the world countries set together in the larger interest embodied in the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, and work collectively to reject Cold War mentality and fight confrontation between world blocs.
