ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad district and sessions court on Saturday sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Iman Khan for three years in prison in the Toshakhana case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs one lak on the PTI chairman. Judge Humayun Dilawar announced the reserved verdict immediately after 12:30pm.
Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan had moved the apex court against the Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s Friday verdict in the Toshakhana criminal case.
An application was filed by his legal team. The petition sought declaring the Toshakhana case non-maintainable and halt its trial.

The request to transfer the Toshakhana case to another court was also rejected, while the court issued notices for next week on the request to restore the right to defence of Imran Khan. Imran Khan could not receive immediate stay order from the court. The IHC asked the sessions court to hear the case again and decide.
Earlier in the day, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court judge Humayun Dilawar said that he will announce the verdict in the Toshakhana criminal case against Imran Khan at 12:30pm if the petitioner’s lawyer does not turn up to extend the final arguments as per the high court orders.
The judge remarked that the court had summoned Khan’s lawyer Khawaja Harris at 8:30 am adding if a suspect does not appear on the first call, non-bailable arrest warrants are issued.
Before announcing the break, the judge asked the ECP lawyer to recite some poetry while they waited for Khawaja Harris.
Amjad Pervaiz read out a verse: “Woh mila to sadiyon ke baad mere lab par koi gila na tha, Usay meri chup ne rula diya jissay guftugu mein kamaal tha.” To earn “wah wah” in appreciation.
