QUETTA: The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has established a Tourism Committee with the aim of creating an inviting environment for investment in the tourism sector of the port city.

Director General of the GDA Dawood Khan Khilji said that the committee, led by the Director of Administration and comprised of members such as the Director of Finance and Director of Urban Planning, will explore tourist spots and opportunities in Gwadar, as stated in a press release on Saturday.

The GDA, through its governing body, has already approved a comprehensive tourism policy to overhaul and develop the sector for increased revenue.

This tourism policy is crafted considering the global and natural tourism significance of Gwadar. It emphasizes principles such as local-private partnership, ease of doing business, innovation, sustainability, improvement of service quality, and protection of tourist rights in Gwadar.

The initiative aims to boost the tourism sector and generate employment opportunities. The Tourism Committee is tasked with addressing the modern demands of tourism, evaluating stakeholder opinions, and working toward achieving overall strategic goals for regional tourism development.

Significance of Tourism Sector for Gwadar

Under the new strategy, the tourism sector will create job opportunities, with plans to add new activities to the tourism market and regulate tourism activities.

GDA’s Tourism Policy adheres to international requirements and practices. The Tourism Committee is responsible for establishing a tourism wing, assessing manpower requirements, and reviewing potential tourist destinations in Gwadar under the Master Plan.

A case study will be conducted to evaluate potential opportunities for promoting tourism in the area. Gwadar, naturally considered a hub of tourism, offers various opportunities, including historical and cultural sites, clean beaches, seafood, food streets, water sports, scenic views, and ferry services.

The GDA is committed to developing these spots, ensuring all facilities to meet the needs of local and foreign tourists exploring its beautiful coastal line.
