Tragic Fire Claims 14 Lives at Kurdistan University Accommodation

KURDISTAN: A devastating fire engulfed a university accommodation block in Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 14 lives on Friday.

The affected building housed both academic staff and students from Soran University. Local authorities, including firefighters, swiftly responded to the emergency. Preliminary findings from the investigation point to an electrical short circuit as the cause of the fire.

The incident, which also left 18 individuals injured, primarily occurred on the third and fourth floors of the building. The civil defence successfully brought the fire under control. Kurdistan’s Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, has called for a thorough investigation to determine the precise causes of this heartbreaking blaze.
