WASHINGTON, USA: Donald Trump criticized the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, calling it a “disgrace” during an interview with Fox News.

His remarks followed backlash from Catholic groups and French bishops over a scene involving dancers, drag queens, and a DJ, which some perceived as a controversial take on the Last Supper. The creators of the ceremony have denied that the scene was intended to represent any religious context.

The ceremony’s portrayal faced widespread condemnation from Christian groups and far-right politicians on social media, leading to significant controversy. When asked about his plans if re-elected president for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Trump pledged that such depictions would not be part of future ceremonies.

Thomas Jolly, the ceremony’s director, later defended the performance, stating it was designed to “reconcile” and “repair” rather than offend.
