NEW DELHI, India: Modi is humiliated by Donald Trump by not inviting him to his oath ceremony. Instead, external affairs minister S Jaishankar will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump as the 47th US president.

According to the Times of India, during the visit, EAM will also have meetings with representatives of the incoming Administration, as some other dignitaries visiting the US on that occasion.

Traditionally, leaders are not invited to the inauguration ceremony of the US President. However, Trump broke tradition this time. The Republican leader has sent personal invites to some leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.

This is a major development against the backdrop of the geopolitical rivalry between Washington DC and Beijing.

Trump invites Xi

Confirming the invite to Xi, Trump spokeswoman Karolie Leavitt said during a show on Fox News, “This is an example of President Trump creating an open dialogue with leaders of countries that are not just allies but our adversaries and our competitors, too.”

According to Mainstream Weekly, an online news website, “Their friendship is fragile. It is not based on the precinct of mutual trust and respect. Both, Donald Trump and Narendra Modi, have been busy promoting their own personal interests behind the veneer of friendship.”

They added, “While Trump used it for achieving his business mission, more than fulfilling US interests, Modi suffering from a personality complex used it to project him as Vishwaguru, the most revered and respected world leader.”

Trump not inviting Modi to his swearing as the US President has not come as a surprise. “He has come to nurse the view that Modi has been using him to serve his ambition,” writes Mainstream Weekly.

Subramanian Swamy tweets

Subramanian Swamy, a Hindu hardliner, shared a link to a YouTube video on his X account, saying the development is “amazing.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy has in past passed bigoted comments that Muslims in India do not deserve the same rights as everyone else living in the country.

He also said,” We know where the Muslim population is large there is always trouble — because the Islamic ideology says so.”

“If Muslim [population] becomes more than 30 per cent [in any country], that country is in danger,” Swamy claimed.

“It is easy to call this hatred, I am being kind to them by not letting them enter India,” he said.
