Turkish Foreign Minister Holds Talks with Libyan PM in Tripoli

TRIPOLI, Libya: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan engaged in crucial discussions with Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity of Libya, during a visit to the North African nation’s capital, Tripoli.

Expressing gratitude for Ankara’s steadfast support toward Libya’s stability and its endorsement of international efforts for conducting elections, Dbeibeh lauded Turkey’s constructive role, as relayed by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

In a statement to journalists, Fidan emphasized the deep-rooted fraternal ties between Turkey and Libya, underscoring the historical bonds shared by the two nations. He highlighted the breadth of topics covered during his meeting with Dbeibeh, emphasizing Turkey’s unwavering commitment to Libya’s integrity, stability, and prosperity.

Discussions during the meeting encompassed various areas of cooperation, spanning political and economic spheres, according to the Hakomitna platform affiliated with the Libyan government. Fidan’s visit placed particular emphasis on supporting international endeavors concerning Gaza and facilitating the electoral process in Libya.

Addressing common challenges, including conflicts and civil unrest in southern African regions, Fidan reiterated Turkey’s readiness to collaborate with Libya in combating terrorism, particularly in addressing migration and smuggling concerns.

Mutual agreements were reached regarding the resumption of flights between the two nations by Turkish Airlines, Fidan revealed. The discussions, ranging from security to economic cooperation, education, and visa matters, were conducted comprehensively and efficiently.

Further engagements were scheduled throughout the day, involving discussions with other high-ranking officials, including President Mohamed Al-Menfi and Abdullah Al-Lafi, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Council.

Additionally, Fidan visited the Turkish Armed Forces’ Libya Task Command earlier in the day, underscoring Turkey’s multifaceted engagement in Libya’s stability and development efforts.

The diplomatic interactions underscore Turkey’s commitment to bolstering bilateral ties and fostering mutual cooperation with Libya across various fronts.
