ISTANBUL: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday said that the US President Joe Biden is facing a test of sincerity in his handling of the war in Gaza.

While interacting with journalists on his way back from the G7 Summit in Italy, Erdogan said Biden is expected to show that the Gaza ceasefire plan is not a calculated electoral move but a sincere attempt to end the war.

According to Gaza health ministry the Israeli relentless bombardment has killed at least 37,296 Palestinians, mostly women, children and infants since October 7. Over all 85,197 Palestinians have been injured with 10,000 feared dead under debris while 9,500 Palestinians were abducted by Israel.

President Tayyip Erdogan told media that Germany has softened its position on sales of Eurofighter jets to Turkiye. In November, Türkiye said the country was in negotiations with Britain and Spain to purchase Eurofighter Typhoons, though Germany objected the idea.

He added that Eurofighters are extremely important to Türkiye. Erdogan also said that inflation will be controlled in the final quarter with the steps to be taken on interest rates.

“Policies aimed at rebalancing the economy are bearing fruit,” Erdogan said.

The G7 summit, held in Italy was attended by leaders from the United States, Turkiye, Japan, France, Germany, Canada, Britain, and the host country.  The G7 nations during the summit agreed to provide a new $50-billion loan to Ukraine, utilizing profits from frozen Russian assets.
