ANKARA: Turkiye’s Communications Director Fahrettin Altun has criticized Instagram for blocking posts related to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s death, accusing the platform of censorship.

Altun claimed that Instagram was “actively preventing people from posting condolences” without providing reasons for policy violations.

In response, the Turkish Information and Communication Technologies Authority (TKM) has blocked access to Instagram, citing the removal of Haniyeh-related content on a national day of mourning as the reason.

Turkiye declared a one-day national mourning period to honor Haniyeh, who was assassinated by Israel in Tehran on Wednesday.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended condolences to the Palestinian people and announced the mourning period to support the Palestinian cause.

The funeral prayer for Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh has been offered in Doha today. According to Al-Jazeera Ismail Haniyeh had resided in Doha along with other members of the Hamas political office.
