ISLAMABAD: Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stressed on Monday that Turkiye would not allow a new influx of refugees from Syria after last week’s devastating quake.
The Turkish FM said that claims regarding a new influx of refugees from Syria to Turkiye are untrue as it will not be allowed and it is out of the question.
Cavusoglu made these comments following claims that Syrians were flooding into Turkiye, following last Monday’s 7.8 magnitude quake which has killed more than 37,000 in the two neighboring countries.
Turkiye not to allow fresh influx of Syrian refugees
Cavusoglu added that Syria’s rebel-held areas, which were struck by the earthquake, are receiving humanitarian aid deliveries via the Bab al Hawa border crossing and that Ankara has made arrangements to open two new border crossings from Kilis province after the earthquake.
He maintained that these border crossings are only for humanitarian aid and that it does not mean that Syrians are coming to Turkiye via these crossings.
Cavusoglu termed facilitating humanitarian aid for Syrians and new Syrian refugee influx as two separate issues.
