ISTANBUL: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will highlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and demand the global community for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid during the G20 foreign ministers meeting in Brazil this Tuesday.
Turkish media quoting diplomatic sources as saying that Türkiye at the conference would discuss issues such as Israel’s war on Gaza, Russia’s war on Ukraine, and the deficiencies in international governance mechanisms.
Under Brazil’s presidency, this will be first ministerial-level G20 meeting. The summit will focus on two main agendas: the G20’s role in addressing ongoing global tensions and reforms in international governance.
Brazil has expressed its intention to prioritize issues advocated by developing nations, including fighting hunger, poverty, and inequality, as well as energy and international governance institution reform.
During the upcoming talks, Fidan will highlight Türkiye’s commitment to global governance reform and discuss the UN Security Council’s inability in stopping Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
Representatives from China, Russia, Türkiye, Latin America, the European Union, and the African Union will seize the opportunity to reiterate their stance on the Israel-Palestine issue and appeal to the global community for action.
Fidan is expected to have bilateral talks with foreign ministers on the sidelines of the G20 and participate in the 25th Meeting of MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye, Australia) foreign ministers.
According to data from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the G20 comprises of approximately 75% of international trade, 85% of the world economy, and two-thirds of the world’s population.
The G20 serves as a significant platform for discussing solutions to international crises and exchanging regional perspectives.
