KARACHI: The Consulate of Turkiye in Karachi held a ceremony on Tuesday night to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, MPA Faryal Talpur, and Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Syed Awais Qadir Shah.
Consul General Cemal Sangu welcomed guests upon their arrival at the Consulate. In his address, he emphasized the strong ties between Turkiye and Pakistan, rooted in a shared commitment to peace, cooperation, and prosperity.
Sangu said that both nations have consistently supported each other through achievements and challenges, stating, “Our brotherhood is deeper than oceans and higher than K-2.”
He highlighted that Turkiye and Pakistan, though two distinct countries are united as one nation with a long history of collaboration. Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, their bilateral relations have progressed significantly, particularly in the defence sector.
Sangu also mentioned the presence of 28 Pak Turk Maarif Schools in Pakistan, with six located in Sindh, providing education to around 30,000 students from kindergarten to high school. He noted that the Turkish government offers scholarships to Pakistani students, with 250 scholarships awarded this year alone and 5,000 students currently studying at Turkish universities.

The Consul General highlighted the cooperation in humanitarian projects through TIKA and noted that the bilateral trade volume had reached $1.3 billion last year, with the potential to rise to $5 billion in the near future. Turkish investment in Pakistan has exceeded $3.5 billion, with hopes to increase it to between $5 and $10 billion.
Sangu announced that the International Defence Exhibition (IDEAS) is scheduled for next month in Karachi, where many Turkish defence companies will participate.
The ceremony was also attended by PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, provincial ministers, consuls general from various countries, high-ranking military officials, and other political leaders.
