Despite a dip in temperatures, the dengue mosquito virus continues to take a toll on residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi as 147 new cases of the vector-borne disease surfaced in the twin cities during the last 24 hours.
According to health officials, a total of 72 new suspected dengue virus cases surfaced in Rawalpindi and 75 in Islamabad during the last 24 hours.
According to data issued by health authorities, the number of suspected dengue patients was rising in the twin cities with each passing day despite ongoing fogging and other measures, putting an extra burden on public sector hospitals, which are already struggling to tend to regular patients and emergencies with meagre resources.
According to the Islamabad District Health Officer’s office, 55 new dengue virus cases surfaced in rural areas and 20 in urban areas of the capital city during the last 24 hours.
According to the Islamabad DHO office, 15 new suspected dengue patients have been admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and 19 to the Polyclinic hospital.
According to health officials, the total number of confirmed dengue patients has reached 3,169 in Islamabad and 3,174 in Rawalpindi. They said that hospitals in Rawalpindi were also catering to the patients from Abbottabad, Attock, Bagh, Haripur, Chakwal and Peshawar.
According to health officials, a total 10 people have lost their lives to the deadly virus so far in the twin cities while three patients were in critical condition at the District Quarters Hospital Rawalpindi and one at the Benazir Bhutto General Hospital.
