SAN FRANCISCO: Just two days after Twitter removed the blue tick from legacy verified accounts amid the launch of its paid subscription service, the microblogging site has now restored coveted badges for users with one million followers without having them to subscribe for it.

On April 20, Twitter began stripping all legacy or unsubscribed verified accounts from its platform as part of an earlier announced policy of the social media site’s new owner Elon Musk, according to which blue checks would be offered for $8 to those who subscribe to it.

Due to this development, many celebrities and notable personalities across various domains, whose blue tick was from the original verification process and who decided not to pay the subscription fee, had lost their coveted verification check mark.

However, now, it seems that the social media site has made some exceptions for people who have not enrolled for the service as Twitter seems to have reinstated the blue badge of users with reportedly over a million followers, according to report in Rolling Stone.

Imran Khan, Babar Azam, Virat Kohli, Donald Trump, are among a number of renowned personalities to have their blue tick back.

Before the platform was bought by Musk, the blue tick was a badge of verification given for free by Twitter and was used as a tool of authentication, designed to help stop fake accounts and curb the spread of misinformation.
