PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested two Afghan extortionists along with eight facilitators during an operation in Mohmand district on Monday.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CTD Imran Shahid, while addressing a press conference, said that the detained accused were found to be engaged in illegal money exchange and honey business in both Peshawar and Lahore.
DIG Imran Shahid disclosed that they were operatives affiliated with the banned group Tehrik-e-Taliban, and one of the facilitators had connections to the medical sector. The accused had allegedly blackmailed a citizen and issued threats of harm.
During the operation, CTD police seized two chequebooks used for transferring extortion funds, a sum of Rs three million in cash, and a vehicle.
SSP CTD Najam-ul-Hassan informed the media that ongoing efforts were being made to apprehend other terrorists and their collaborators.
He highlighted that 1600 Afghans were implicated in various criminal activities, including terrorism and extortion, with 90 percent of Afghan SIM cards being utilized by them.
