Two Policemen Killed in Terror Attack on Judges’ Convey in Northwestern Pakistan

PESHAWAR: Two police officers on security duty of judges were killed and two others injured when their convoy was ambushed by militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwest Pakistan.

The attack occurred as the judges’ convoy, which was under tight security, was traveling from Tank district courts to their homes in Dera Ismail Khan after duty hours.

The militants targeted the convoy in the restive Tank district, but no additional casualties or injuries were reported despite ongoing gunfire between the police and the attackers on the Tank-DI Khan road. All the three judges remained unhurt in the attack, police said.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur strongly denounced the attack and requested a detailed report.

This incident is part of a troubling trend of terrorist attacks across Pakistan, with a significant concentration in the volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to a report from Pakistan’s interior ministry presented to the National Assembly, the country experienced 1,514 terror attacks in 2023, resulting in 2,922 casualties.

The report also indicates that 572 armed forces personnel were killed and 1,292 injured in these attacks.

The report also covers the first four months of 2024, during which there were 561 terror attacks were reported in which 167 security personnel, and 118 civilians were martyred. Furthermore, 348 security personnel and 253 civilians were injured in these attacks.
