RIYADH: Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah has stressed that the two-state solution is the only viable path toward achieving a long-lasting peace in the Middle East region, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

Prince Faisal said the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit, held in Riyadh, yesterday demonstrates the sincere commitment of Arab and Islamic nations to continue efforts to reduce escalation, stop the violations committed by Israeli occupation forces, ease restrictions on humanitarian assistance, and advocate for the two-state solution.

During a press conference in Riyadh, the Saudi Foreign Minister said the summit had focused on boosting Arab and Islamic cooperation and coordinating with the global community to achieve a permanent ceasefire, stop the conflict from spreading to other parts of the region and mitigate the growing threat posed by Israeli military operations to both regional and international security.

The Saudi Foreign Minister said that the international community bears the responsibility to put pressure on Israel to stop its actions, including the withholding of Palestinian tax funds from the Palestinian Authority which adversely impacts the administration of Palestinian territories.

Prince Faisal reaffirmed the Kingdom’s and the Arab and Islamic nations’ continuous support for the Palestinian Authority, acknowledging its capability to manage the situation in both the West Bank and Gaza, even under current circumstances.

Earlier a resolution adopted at the conclusion of the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit condemned the crime of enforced disappearance committed by the Israeli occupation forces since the beginning of the current aggression against thousands of Palestinian citizens in the Gaza Strip and throughout the occupied Palestinian territory.

It also condemned in the strongest terms the horrific and shocking crimes committed by the Israeli occupation army in the Gaza Strip, urging the Security Council to form an independent and credible international investigation committee to investigate these crimes.

It further condemned the continued and persistent Israeli aggression against Lebanon and the violation of its sovereignty and the sanctity of its territories.

The resolution unequivocally condemned the deliberate attacks on UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon by Israel, which are direct violations of the UN Charter, and demanded the United Nations Security Council to hold Israel accountable for ensuring the safety and security of UN peacekeepers.

It stressed to mobilize international support for the State of Palestine to join the United Nations as a full member.
