ISTANBUL: With a massive storm approaching amid continuing heat, World Scouting events in the East Asian country South Korea will be wrapped up earlier than expected, organizers said on Monday.

The decision by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) came after the South Korean government told about the possible impact of Typhoon Khanun.

Nearly forty-three thousand scouts from 158 nations have been camping since 1 August at the Saemangeum Reclaimed Area along the southwestern coastal region of South Korea.

The scouting events had been slated to conclude by next Saturday, but the scouting organization said that due to the typhoon, an early departure would be planned for all participants, according to Anadolu Agency.

The organization added that it urgently called on the government to speed up the departure plan and provide all required resources and support for participants during their stay and until they return to their home countries.

The departure of the scouts will start on Tuesday.

Typhoon Likely to Make Landfall on Thursday

Typhoon Khanun is likely to make landfall on Thursday along the southeastern coast of South Korea, bringing heavy rains and gushing winds across the peninsula.

Earlier, many participants fell sick due to a heat wave in the country.
