DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) in partnership with American Near East Refugee Aid on Sunday announced that it had delivered 400 tonnes of food aid to war-hit Gaza.

The delivery, mainly for the northern areas of the besieged enclave, is enough to feed about 120,000 people.

Emirati Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al-Hashimy, said the UAE’s safe and successful delivery of food aid to the Gaza Strip, especially the northern Gaza Strip, marks a major scaling up in action.

She added the UAE remains firmly committed to its position of solidarity with the people of Palestine and ending the suffering in the Gaza Strip.

The minister added the UAE is working in parallel with global partners and is determined more than ever to enhance all efforts to ensure that aid lifelines get to those who need it the most.

CEO of ANERA, Sean Carroll, expressed gratitude to the Emirati government for its assistance in getting the much-needed aid to the people of Palestine.

He said ANERA is grateful to the UAE government and its people, that helped the aid agency to deliver the food to Gaza.

Last month the UAE government allocated $15 million to bolster aid efforts in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi continues to collaborate with global partners and organizations to enable the effective delivery of food and relief via air, land, and sea.

The UAE has so far sent more than 31,000 tonnes of humanitarian assistance including relief items, food, and medical supplies, through 256 flights, 46 airdrops, 1,231 trucks, and six ships.

The UAE has also initiated several sustainable relief projects to ensure a consistent supply of food and water to the people of Gaza.
