DUBAI: A prosthetic limbs center financed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) opened at field hospital in Gaza on Wednesday.
The initiative aims to manufacture high-grade, prosthetics limbs, and offer rehabilitation services to the patients.
The project is part of the UAE’s Operation Gallant Knight 3 which was started on the directives from President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan to help and support the people of Palestine.
Measurements of 36 patients were taken on the opening day of the center. It is projected that the total number of patients helped by the center will exceed 100 in the next few days. The hospital has treated 5,423 patients so far in the other departments at the field hospital.
A humanitarian convoy from the UAE entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing as part of Operation Gallant Knight 3. It comprised of 11 trucks delivering more than 240 tonnes of aid, including winter clothing, household necessities, tents, food and medical supplies.
According to Emirati officials more than 15,809 tonnes of humanitarian assistance have been delivered to Palestinians using two cargo ships, 165 flights and 476 trucks.
The UAE has also established six desalination plants, with a daily production capacity of 1.2 million gallons of water, to help the people of Gaza.
