UAE President Sheikh Mohammed Appoints Eldest Son as Abu Dhabi Crown Prince

DUBAI: United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan on Wednesday appointed Sheikh Khaled crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Arab media reported.

Sheikh Mohammed also named his brother Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan vice president of the UAE alongside the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum. He also named his other brothers Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al-Nahyan as deputy rulers of Abu Dhabi.

The new crown prince, Sheikh Khaled is already chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office and a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. He is the chairman of several boards, including the executive committee of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, the UAE Genomics Council, and the Advanced Technology Research Council. Sheikh Tahnoun, was also appointed the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed replaced himself with Sheikh Mansour, proprietor of Manchester City football club, as chairman of Mubadala.
