DUBAI: President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed received a phone call from the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, UAE state-run WAM news agency said.
They discussed “cooperation between the US and the UAE in defense matters as part of the strategic ties that bind the two countries.
“They also discussed serious regional developments and recent escalation that threatens to aggravate violence and instability, undermine security in the Middle East region, and jeopardize the likelihood of achieving lasting peace,” the statement added.
UAE President Stresses Protection of Civilians
The UAE President emphasized the priority of protecting the lives of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law, and the need to secure urgent humanitarian corridors to supply relief and medical aid to the people in the Gaza Strip, given the deteriorating humanitarian conditions faced by Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
The UAE President also stressed the need to increase regional and international efforts to find a clear political prospect to achieve a fair and complete peace for the benefit of all peoples of the region and in a way that preserves regional security and stability.
