DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday referred 84 defendants to trial on charges of establishing an illegal organization with the intent to commit acts of violence and terrorism within the country, as reported by the state-run news agency WAM.

The country’s Attorney General, Hamad Al-Shamsi, revealed that the majority of the defendants were associated with the terrorist organization of the Muslim Brotherhood in the UAE.

In a statement, Al-Shamsi stated, “84 defendants, mostly members of Muslim Brotherhood in the United Arab Emirates, face charges of establishing another secret organization to commit acts of violence and terrorism on state territory.” The statement did not disclose the identities of the suspects.

The attorney general emphasized that each of the accused has been assigned a lawyer, and after nearly six months of investigation, prosecutors gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with the trial. The state security court has initiated public trial proceedings, including hearing witnesses.
