DUBAI: The United Arab Emirate (UAE) has announced that it is working with various global organizations and hospitals to install SpaceX’s Starlink satellite broadband at its field hospital in the war-hit Gaza Strip, Arab media reported on Wednesday.

Israel’s Communications Ministry in a statement said the Israeli security authorities allowed the provision of Starlink services at the UAE’s field hospital in Rafah.

The hospital will be equipped with Starlink internet service, facilitating potentially lifesaving medical consultations via video calling.

The UAE foreign ministry said the step was in line with the UAE’s strong commitment to standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people during war with Israel which has injured more than 68,000 people since October.

It also stressed the importance of dependable high-speed internet in ensuring high quality medical care for Palestinians in Gaza’s hospitals.

The ministry reaffirmed the importance of providing safe, sustainable, immediate, and uninterrupted humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.

Some of the organizations and hospitals collaborating with the UAE include Great Ormond Street Hospital in London; Cambridge University Hospitals; University College London Hospitals; the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC; Cleveland Clinic Foundation; the Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital in Rome; Boston Children’s Hospital; the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; the Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa, Italy; and the Sant Joan de Deu Barcelona Hospital in Spain.
