LONDON, England: Leading UK charities, under the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC), have launched an urgent appeal to raise funds for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Lebanon, and the occupied West Bank.
The DEC, which includes organizations like Oxfam and ActionAid, highlighted the immense levels of need due to the ongoing conflicts in the region. Millions of people have fled their homes, and many, especially children, are grappling with severe trauma.
DEC chief Saleh Saeed emphasized the urgent need for donations to help save lives, as shelters and hospitals in Gaza and Lebanon struggle to cope. The UK government has pledged to match donations up to £10 million. Development minister Anneliese Dodds described the suffering of civilians as “intolerable.”
While the appeal currently focuses on Gaza and Lebanon, the DEC is monitoring the situation in Israel and could expand its response if necessary. Previous DEC appeals have raised significant funds for crises such as the Indian Ocean tsunami and the Ukraine war.
