LONDON: According to recent survey polls the Conservative Party is far behind its competitor, the Labour Party.

However, the polls also say the Conservative Party has managed to halt the recent continuous decline in its popularity.

The Conservatives stand with a popularity of 20 percent but they still have a long way to go as the Labour Party currently stands at 40 percent popularity.

If these popularity percentages are converted into seats, the projections hint that the Labour Party could win 450 seats, the Conservatives 100, the Liberal Democrats 50, the Scottish National Party 18, Reform UK seven seats and the Green Party could bag two seats.

This comes as political parties increase their campaigns in the final week ahead of the general elections on July 4.

The British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in an interview with BBC asserted that he was proud of his party’s formidable election campaign.  He also said that he was optimistic about securing another term as prime minister.

According to another new YouGov poll, a major chunk of Pakistani voters are leaning more towards the Green party. The Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities are mostly Muslim, and the increased support for the Greens is due to the Labour Party’s stance on the Gaza conflict.

41 percent of the voters from these communities have regarded the Gaza conflict as a major factor in deciding their vote.

According to the poll, only 28  of Pakistani and Bangladeshi voters have a favourable vote for Labour Party’s leader Keir Starmer, while 78 Percent believe that he handled the Gaza issue very badly.

In addition to the Gaza issue being a major factor in their voting decision, other factors include the National Health Service (NHS), the cost of living and the state of the economy.

Ethnic minority groups have been affected badly by the rise in the cost of living as compared to the wider public.
