LONDON, England: UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced a “new approach” in relations with Africa, prioritizing mutual respect and partnership as he commenced his first official visit to Nigeria and South Africa.
Lammy emphasized that the UK would prioritize “listening rather than telling,” aiming to foster long-term growth over short-term solutions. This visit underscores the UK’s renewed commitment to Africa, with Lammy stating that economic growth will be the cornerstone of UK relations with Nigeria, South Africa, and other nations on the continent.
In Nigeria, Lammy is expected to sign a Strategic Partnership agreement addressing key issues like economic growth, security, and climate change.
He will continue to South Africa, where he aims to solidify a UK-South Africa Growth Plan focused on economic collaboration. Additionally, Lammy will attend the Earthshot+ conference in Cape Town to explore how the UK can support environmental innovation, aligning with Prince William’s Earthshot Prize initiative, which funds ecological solutions globally.
