LONDON: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Friday met with leaders of Qatar, Jordan and Egypt on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, UAE, Arab media reported.
According to Downing Street, Rishi Sunak also met with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, on the occasion and thanked him for Qatar’s significant role in facilitating the humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip. They deeply regretted the collapse of the truce and reiterated the significance of current efforts to secure the release of all captives and ensure humanitarian help reaches those in need in the Gaza Strip, the statement said.

In the long term, Rishi Sunak said “we should work toward a two-state solution which guarantees the prosperity and security of both Palestinians and Israelis.”
Meanwhile, PM Sunak also held a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on the occasion, where he reassured him that London continues to press Israel on the need to follow to global humanitarian law and stop settler violence in the Occupied West Bank.

He also held meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and reiterated London’s support for the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, King Charles III, who is also participating in COP28, met with Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim on the sidelines of the climate summit to discuss bilateral ties between the two sides, as well as the ways to enhance them.
