However, the local governor claimed that the army was repelling the drone attack. The governor also uploaded a video showing a large fire while a blast could also be heard in the area. Pskov city is more than 600km away from Ukraine, close to the border area with Estonia. Kyiv has not said it was involved in the drone attack, but it rarely remarks on assaults inside Russia.

BBC reported that in recent days Kyiv is believed to have intensified its use of explosive drones to assault targets inside Russia. In a statement via social media, regional governor Mikhail Vedernikov said that the country’s Ministry for defence ministry is repelling the drone attack on the city’s airport. Tass news agency, quoting emergency services, stated the damage to the planes. It reported that due to the drone attack, four Il-76 airplanes were damaged. It further reported that a fire broke out and two airplanes burst into blazes.

A drone assault on Russia’s Belgorod killed three people earlier, hours after another drone hit Moscow, Russian authorities said. Pskov city was earlier targeted by drone attacks in late May.
