WASHINGTON: US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has said in a post on Truth Social that he had a “very good call” with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and promised to end the war pitting Kyiv against Moscow through talks.

President Zelensky reported his talks with the former President expressed thanks for US military help. But Zelensky made no reference in a post on social media to efforts to end war.

Donlad Trump has stated that he will end the conflict in Ukraine before he even takes office in January should the former President win the November race. He said that had he been in office when Russia sent forces into Kyiv in February 2022, the war in Ukraine would not have taken place.

In his Truth Social post, Trump said that as president he “will bring peace to the entire world and end the conflict that has cost so many lives.” He added that the two sides will be able to come together and negotiate an agreement that ends the violence and paves a path forward to progress and prosperity.

In his social media post, President Zelensky stated that he felicitated Trump on becoming the Republican nominee and denounced the assassination attempt on him last week. “I wished him strength and absolute safety in the future,” President Zelensky said.

President Zelensky rejects any talks with Moscow on ending the war as long as Russian forces remain in Ukraine.
