KYIV: Ukraine said on Wednesday that it detained two agents of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) accused of sharing the location of sensitive military targets with Russian forces.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine has cracked down on those suspected of collaborating with Moscow, opening thousands of criminal cases.

Ukraine’s SBU security service said in a statement that as a result of a special operation, two FSB operatives were detained in Kyiv and Odesa, according to AFP.

It said that the operatives tried to identify the locations of Ukrainian forces to help Russia adjust air strikes.

The SBU added that at the final stage of the special operation, both criminals were caught red-handed while spying on potential targets for Russia.

It said that one of the suspects photographed a thermal power station, ostensibly to help Moscow with its bombardment of the energy infrastructure of Ukraine.

Both operatives were charged with collaboration and face life in prison.

Ukraine opens over 6,600 criminal cases

Regarding collaboration cases, in 2023, the UN reported that Ukraine had initiated over 6,600 criminal cases against individuals for collaboration and other conflict-related crimes since the war began.
