ISLAMABAD: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Koliba is set to undertake an urgent visit to Pakistan in the coming days, as per reports from local media on Wednesday.
It is anticipated that the Ukrainian FM will engage in discussions with FM Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, pertaining to the dire food crisis that has gripped Ukraine in the aftermath of the Russia-led war.
Simultaneously, officials from the Pakistani government have expressed their desire for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, advocating for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing turmoil. Islamabad, while being aware of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the war-ravaged country, has thus far maintained a neutral stance, abstaining from openly condemning Russia.
Pakistan has consistently abstained from voting against Russia in the United Nations, instead urging support for the withdrawal of troops from Ukraine. The country’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict has remained unchanged, as reiterated by FM Bilawal last year, who reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to neutrality, emphasizing their weariness with wars and conflicts, in an interview with Al Jazeera.
In an official statement released by the Foreign Office, Pakistan’s stance on the matter has been described as “unchanged,” signifying the country’s principled approach to the diplomatic challenge at hand. Islamabad strives to maintain a delicate equilibrium in its relationships with major global powers, including the United States and China, aiming to foster well-rounded, objective, and mutually advantageous ties.
The coming visit of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Koliba underscores the gravity of the situation and highlights Pakistan’s dedication to finding a diplomatic solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. As both nations engage in dialogue, the international community keenly observes Pakistan’s efforts to navigate these complex dynamics and ensure stability in the region.
