KYIV: Ukraine reported on Sunday that it successfully thwarted two Russian missile attacks and intercepted 20 drones overnight. In a statement, the Ukrainian Air Force revealed that Russian occupying forces launched the Iskander-K cruise missile, the Kh-59 guided air missile, and 20 Shahed-type strike drones during the attacks.
Ukrainian forces claimed to have managed to shoot down the drones and the Kh-59 missile, preventing the Iskander-K cruise missile from reaching its intended target. The missiles were reportedly launched from Crimea and the occupied Kherson region. However, the statement did not specify any casualties or damage resulting from the attacks.
Russia Foils 33 Drone Attacks in Border Regions with Ukraine
In response, Russia claimed to have foiled 33 drone attacks in three border regions with Ukraine. The Russian defense ministry stated that their air defense systems “destroyed and intercepted 33 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles over the territories of the Lipetsk, Rostov, and Volgograd regions.”
Drone attacks have become increasingly common in Russia’s border regions, although mass attacks are less frequent. Ukrainian drones have also targeted the capital, Moscow, and its outskirts. Meanwhile, Russia continues its daily bombardment of Ukrainian towns.
Last week, Russia launched a major drone attack on southern Ukraine and fired ballistic missiles at Kyiv, resulting in approximately 50 people being wounded by debris.
