Kyiv: Kyiv said on Monday that Russian forces had attacked Ukraine with eight drones but that its air defence systems had repelled the barrage.

Emphasizing the need to secure control of the country’s airspace, officials urged Western nations to provide additional air defence systems.

According to a statement from the Ukrainian Air Force, the enemy deployed eight Shahed-136/131-type attack UAVs from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk region in the Russian Federation. The statement further revealed that defence systems in various southern and central regions of Ukraine effectively intercepted and downed the drones. There were no immediate reports of damage resulting from falling debris.

This incident follows a series of aerial assaults on Russia’s border regions, specifically targeting oil storage facilities. While sources within Ukraine’s security sector have reportedly claimed responsibility for some of these attacks to AFP, both Kyiv and the Ukrainian military have maintained a guarded stance regarding any potential involvement in attacks within Russia.

On Sunday, Moscow reported yet another incident, describing a fire at a gas terminal in the Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga. The operator, Novatek, attributed the fire to an “external factor” but did not provide further details.
