KYIV: Ukraine’s military on Saturday claimed it had attacked Russia’s Morozovsk airfield and several oil depots and fuel storage facilities across three Russian regions overnight.

The Ukrainian military reported that these strikes were part of a broader strategy to disrupt Russian military operations and supply lines amid the ongoing conflict.

According to Ukrainian sources, the attack on the Morozovsk airfield successfully hit an ammunition depot where Russian forces stored guided aerial bombs and other military equipment.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in a statement on Telegram, emphasized the necessity of targeting Russian military assets. “Russian combat aviation must be destroyed wherever it is, by all effective means. It is also quite fair to strike at Russian airfields. And we need this joint solution with our partners – a security solution,” Zelenskiy wrote.

The Ukrainian leader has consistently urged Western allies for permission to employ long-range weapons to strike deeper into Russian territory, alongside targeting military sites near the Ukrainian border.

Zelenskiy also noted that Russian forces had launched over 600 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine in the past week, highlighting the urgency of Ukraine’s counter-strikes.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces targeted oil depots and fuel storage facilities in the Belgorod, Kursk, and Rostov regions. The strikes reportedly ignited at least two oil tanks, causing significant fires.

Local officials in Russia confirmed that a fuel storage depot in the Kamensky district of Rostov caught fire due to a drone attack. In Belgorod, the regional governor reported that a drone strike caused a fire at an oil storage facility, though no injuries were reported as the fire was promptly extinguished.
