The White House also confirmed the supply of the missiles for the first time. In a statement, National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said that they believed these ATACMS missiles would give an important boost to Ukraine’s battleground abilities without risking their (US) army readiness. “Today, a special thanks to Washington,” President Zelensky said in a message. “Our deals with US President Biden are being executed.”

However, Russia’s envoy to the US Anatoly Antonov said that the US’s decision to provide Ukraine with ATACMS long-range missiles was “a serious mistake”. The envoy said that Washington’s decision to provide long-range missiles to Ukrainian is a serious mistake. Anatoly Antonov further said that the consequences of this act, which was intentionally hidden from the public, would be serious in nature.

Earlier, Kyiv said it had hit airfields in the Russian-occupied area overnight, saying the “successful operation” had also destroyed several helicopters. Ukraine has for months urged the West to give it with long-range arms for its counteroffensive, AFP reported.
