PARIS: The commitment of new aid to Ukraine by its allies has significantly reduced, reaching its lowest point since the commencement of the war, said the Ukraine aid tracker from the Kiel Institute on Thursday.

The German-based institute stated that the momentum in providing support to Ukraine has decelerated. It noted that the pledges for new military, financial, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine from August to October 2023 have decreased by nearly 90 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2022, marking the lowest level since the war’s commencement in February 2022.

This downturn in support comes amid a slowdown in Western backing for Ukraine, with the anticipated counteroffensive in Kyiv failing to deliver results and global attention shifting towards the Israel-Hamas conflict.

In the United States, Senate Republicans are obstructing additional funding for Ukraine, engaged in a dispute with Democrats over US border security. Meanwhile, in the European Union, negotiations for a 50-billion-euro ($53 billion) aid package for Ukraine over the next four years are facing delays.
