MOSCOW, Russia: A fuel depot in Russia’s Rostov region was engulfed in flames following a Ukrainian drone attack, according to regional Governor Vasily Golubev.

The fire, which broke out on Wednesday, is being actively fought by firefighters. Fortunately, the blaze has not endangered nearby residential areas, and no injuries have been reported.

This incident adds to ongoing tensions, as Rostov’s Proletarsk city has already been grappling with a significant fire at an oil storage facility since August 18, also triggered by a Ukrainian drone attack.

These attacks on Russian oil and gas infrastructure have been part of Ukraine’s broader strategy since the onset of the conflict in 2022, aimed at retaliating for Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently lauded these operations, asserting that targeting Russian oil facilities would contribute to achieving a “just end” to the conflict.
