Ukrainian, French Presidents Discuss Defense Cooperation

BUENOS AIRES: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a phone call with French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed defense package to strengthen Ukraine’s military.

Zelensky who is currently in Argentina, in a post on social media platform X, formerly twitter, said that during the call he told his French counterpart about frontline developments and thanked him for all the military assistance provided by France to Ukraine.

“We discussed our priority needs and the next French defense package, which will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s firepower,” he said.

Zelensky added that he also stressed the importance of the EUCO (European Council) summit opening Ukraine’s EU accession talks. He said Ukraine has fulfilled all the required European Commission’s recommendations.

Ukrainian president further stated that the European Council’s decisions will boost the morale of both Ukrainian society and its military forces.

Earlier, Zelensky canceled plan to appeal directly to US legislators for new aid and help, after US Senate had blocked a White House plea for 106 billion dollars in emergency aid for Ukraine.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden will host Zelensky at the White House Tuesday as talks on a Ukraine aid deal remain stalled in Congress.

As per reports this would be Zelensky’s second visit to Washington since the war in Ukraine started. His last visited took place in September.
