LONDON:  British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said he is “very worried” by the apparent assassination bid against former US president Donald Trump.

The UK Prime Minister thought that it was really important that they were all very, very clear that violence has no part to play in political process. He was addressing journalists in Rome.

A 58-year-old self-employed affordable housing builder from Hawaii, has been identified by US media as the suspect in an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

According AFP, the incident occurred near Trump’s Florida golf course, where the suspect was reportedly apprehended after US Secret Service agents intervened. The suspect, armed with an AK-47 style rifle, had initially fled the scene but was later tracked down by authorities.

The suspect’s background reveals a complex and troubling profile. The accused had an extensive criminal record and was known for his outspoken political views, particularly his criticism of Trump. Suspect’s social media posts included vocal support for Ukraine’s resistance against Russia, and he had expressed a willingness to join the fight in Ukraine, emphasizing his commitment to the cause in various statements.

In a March 2022 post, the accused declared his readiness to travel to Ukraine and “fight and die” for its cause. His support for Ukraine was evident in his participation in a demonstration in Kyiv, where he expressed strong condemnation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and called for global action against Russian aggression. The New York Times and AFP had previously reported on his activism and his views on the conflict.

The case highlights the intense political and social tensions surrounding both domestic and international issues. The upcoming US presidential election, with candidates like Vice President Kamala Harris, who supports continued aid to Ukraine, and Trump, who has been ambiguous about his stance on the war, adds another layer of complexity to the situation.
