ISLAMABAD: UK’s oldest company and official maker of coins, the Royal Mint, has released a gold-minted bullion bar for the country’s Muslim community that depicts the Kaaba.

The twenty-gram bar, which was released ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, was made in consultation with the Muslim Council of Wales.

Muslim Council of Wales’ member Abdul-Azim Ahmed said it has been amazing to work with The Royal Mint to introduce this special gold bullion bar depicting the Holy Kaaba. Covered by the kiswa, a dark cloth with gold decoration, the building’s design is unmistakable, and it has now been minted in gold, the precious metal.

He said that the design would be popular with the Muslim community and it exemplifies the craftsmanship of The Royal Mint. It has been a fascinating process.

Gold bar launch

In marking the launch of the gold bar, The Royal Mint in February took part in 3 events across the country hosted by Islamic Relief, a top Muslim charity that provides support responses to emergencies and disasters around the world.

The 3 events — in London, Manchester, and Glasgow — aimed to raise funds for Syria and Turkiye in the wake of recent deadly earthquakes.
