NEW YORK: A High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Miguel Moratinos, has unequivocally condemned and denounced the “vile act” of burning pages of the holy Quran in Stockholm, Sweden.

In a statement, the UNAOC’s top official, said that “such a ‘vile act’ is disrespectful to Muslims across the world.” APP reported that he stressed that the desecration of places of worship and sacred books as well as religious symbols was “offensive and can lead to provocation of violence.”
He also reiterated that mutual respect was must for making and promoting just, peaceful and inclusive societies, and rooted in human rights and dignity for everyone.
In this regard, Miguel Moratinos recalled the UN Plan of Action to protect holy sites led by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, which provides a main framework and a set of suggestions including strengthening religious pluralism and promoting human dignity and mutual respect, APP reported.
