GENEVA: The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres decried the loss of thousands of innocent civilian lives in Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Gaza, saying that it is “clear” now that thousands of children have been killed in just a few weeks.
“This is what matters,” Guterres told Al Jazeera, adding, “We are witnessing a killing of innocent civilians that is unparalleled and unprecedented in any conflict since I am secretary-general.” Guterres began his first five-year term in January 2017.
The death toll in Gaza continues to rise, with at least 13,000 Palestinian people, including over 5,500 children, and 4,000 women reported as martyred in Israeli attacks on the besieged territory.
