NEW YORK: Israel has told the United Nations (UN) it will not renew a visa for the UN humanitarian aid official for Gaza and West Bank, a UN official said on Friday. Lynn Hastings, a UN official, has served as the deputy special coordinator for the Middle East peace process and UN humanitarian coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory for about 3 years.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that the UN has been informed by Israel regarding visa of Hastings. He added UN staff do not prolong their visas in anywhere, but stressed that UN Chief Antonio Guterres has complete confidence in Hastings. However, Dujarric did not say whether or not Hastings would be replaced.

Earlier, Israel’s Foreign Ministry alleged Hastings – in a social media post – of failing to be objective, which the UN strongly rejected. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric personal direct attacks on UN officials anywhere across the world is completely unacceptable and puts people’s lives at dangers.
Earlier, the UN Chief warned the UNSC that Gaza was in the middle of an “epic humanitarian disaster.”
