GAZA: The interim UN Resident Coordinator in the Palestinian Occupied Territory, Jamie McGoldrick, declared on Saturday that the United Nations is intensively engaged in addressing the urgent needs of hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians in Gaza.

However, he emphasized the necessity to modify the restriction imposed by Israel at the Rafah crossing to enhance aid delivery.

McGoldrick reported a significant effort, with 200 trucks being the highest recorded number crossing into Rafah. Notably, all incoming aid is routed from the south, as restrictions from the north persist. The UN is striving to assist the population of 2.2 million, acknowledging that the entire populace likely requires some form of assistance.

Highlighting the challenges faced, McGoldrick stressed the need to extend aid distribution to areas like the north, where an estimated 250,000 – 300,000 people are in need. However, ongoing conflict and military operations in central zones pose obstacles, hindering the movement of convoys.

The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has endured for 100 days, resulting in alarming statistics, including the martyrdom of approximately 23,843 individuals, injuries to 60,317 others, and over 8,000 reported missing. Widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure compounds the humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory. The UN’s efforts remain vital in alleviating the suffering of the affected population.
