GENEVA: United Nations (UN) experts called on Thursday for a humanitarian truce in Gaza, adding time was running out for Palestinians there who find themselves at “grave risk of genocide.”

About four weeks of barbaric Israeli bombing against the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7 have martyred over 9,000 people including women and children, health officials said. “We remain complete convinced that the Palestinians are at grave risk of genocide,” UN experts said in a statement. The experts demanded a humanitarian truce to ensure that help reaches those who need it the most.

On October 28, departing top UN human rights official Craig Mokhiber wrote to the High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said they were seeing a genocide unfolding before their eyes, and the Organization that they served appears helpless to prevent it.

“The situation in the Gaza Strip has reached a disastrous tipping point,” the UN experts stated, saying that people in Gaza had been left with scarce medicine, water, essential supplies and fuel while facing health issues. The experts also asked Israel and its allies to agree to an urgent cease-fire in Gaza.

Earlier, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the continuation of Israeli massacres and war crimes, the latest of which was the Jabalia Camp butchery committed by the Israeli occupation forces today, destroying an entire residential neighborhood, which led to the death of hundreds of Palestinians, the Saudi Press Agency (SAP) reported on Tuesday.
